Perhaps good things do indeed come to those who wait. It looks like
this week will bring a ozone/haze event to the mid-Atlantic. Although
subject to a final decision Monday June 11, we are planning a multi-day
deployment of the aircraft to Richmond, Virginia (RIC). Objectives of
the series of flights we propose to conduct out of RIC will be to:
1. perform in situ evaluations of Richmond profiler/RASS data
2. investigate regional-scale pollutant transport to central
Virginia
3. characterize planetary boundary layer (PBL) height, dynamics
and development
4. investigate cross-corridor (I-95 transport corridor; Richmond
metropolitan area) differences in air quality aloft
5. acquire in situ data for air pollution hindcasting and
photochemical modeling
Current plan is to ferry to RIC early morning on Tuesday June 12,
conduct flight operations around the Richmond area for 2-3 days, then
return to Maryland. While at RIC we will stage out of Richmond Jet
Center (804-226-7200 and ask for "N500Z Crew") in the General Aviation
facility at RIC airport. Draft flight plans are available from the Principal Investigator upon
request on Monday June 11.
Check back at the end of the week for preliminary flight summaries.
