Dr. Ruiz-Barradas is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Atmospheric & Oceanic Science; he has been on faculty since 2001, after obtaining his Ph.D. here in climate science. He is a Mexican-born US citizen who studied under renowned climatologist Julian Adem Chahín in his early career. Dr. Ruiz-Barradas’ observationally focused research targets the origin and mechanisms of regional hydroclimate variability and change and decadal-to-multidecadal climate variability, and seasonal hydroclimate prediction.
The Assistant to the Maryland State Climatologist is Phillip Stratton. He is a PhD student in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science, University of Maryland at College Park. He has two degrees in chemistry, a bachlors from the University of Michigan and a masters from Eastern Michigan University.
