Modeling the Messinian Salinity Crisis:
 

The LS experiment results in a large increase in winter convective and large-scale precipitation over Northern Italy (Fig. 5). The winter precipitation difference over the Alps reaches a maximum of 1500 mm yr-1.

The effects that the Messinian Salinity Crisis had on the Earth's climate are huge.  The experiments showed that there changes in the atmosphere and water around the Earth.
